Mickey Mouse got hitched | #stayathome
Mickey mouse got hitched! #stayathome #lockdown2020 #covid19
My daughter has this cute little doll Lego, and just knew I wanted her to get married…and the only other Lego I could find with a tuxedo was Mickey Mouse. It’s the Mickey Mouse from the first cartoon Disney made, and I think they make a cute pair!
I used my LED light and flashlight (with a long carton tube, this focused the light) to light the toys, and I used my wedding tricks to photograph them.
My original idea was to photograph Mickey Mouse and Petunia (I am calling her Petunia) in a water droplet, and it turned out it is impossible…I guess I am going it wrong if it is not the case…hehehe. I then improvised by placing the subjects underneath the glass table and I made 2 big droplets on the table and I photographed their faces in these droplets. I also tried suspending them in the air underneath the table, and it resulted in very moody misty photos…which is also a cool effect. I also then improvised by placing the subjects on the glass table with droplets and I then placed color squares underneath to get the color pattern from the squares displayed in the droplets. I got this idea from Jacki Bruniquel a while ago and I have been dying to try this technique. This is magic and I love the results!
For the other photos I went around in my yard to photograph them. I used my LED light to light the subjects and I played around with my flashlight with effects. The carton tube, which focused the light, made for really interesting photos, and I also used a pattern with the photos at the end…if you light into a paper with cut-out stripes…then you get stripes in the shadows. The is easily done with a Magmod system, but I dont have the patterns. (yet)
Enjoy the photos and please comment and share with your friends!

They have the most extraordinary kitchen with amazing views of the beach in Mauritius.

Be Inspired - Admired in Africa 2018 | Conference | Hertford Country Hotel
Wow, I am inspired. Thank you Admired in Africa for hosting the Be Inspired Conference and the speakers were super inspirational!
Be Inspired - Admired in Africa 2018 | Conference | Hertford Country Hotel
You can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water. Rabindranath Tagore
Wow, I am inspired. Thank you.
Admired in Africa hosts a conference yearly and super talented and inspirational photographers present little workshops about themselves and their brands, and this year was a great success. I learned a lot and the conference is also a platform to get to know other photographers in the industry...I mean we have the same heart and speak the same language...the language of photography. We understand each other. I often get caught in a place where it is me and my brand, and I need to make a success, and nobody understands me. I mean I get into shooting, and then editing, and then posting...and more shooting...more editing...more shooting...and then you want to talk to non-photographers about life and you can't help but talk "photography"...but they don't understand. In any case...it was good to refuel and talk photography for 3 days. I got valuable tips and tricks to improve my business!
Brett Florens (some say he is the Rolls Royce of wedding photography) presented on Day 1 and we had a practical with him. We used a continuous light, Rotolight Aeos (oh yes, I have been eyeballing this light for a while now) during his practical, and he showed us how to pose a couple for a photoshoot. Wow, he is an inspiration to watch. He pushes you so far out of your comfort zone that your head wants to explode. He has been in the industry for 27 years, and have tons of knowledge and experience... thank you for your advice. I will be a fool if I don't implement some of what you have said....oh wait I already have. I have wedding collections now and not wedding packages...like you have said...nobody wants to buy my packages...;)
I have also learnt a great deal from William Lambelet, a french documentary wedding photographer. I have been following him for a while and he has won numerous International Awards, and he has an impeccable way of telling a story. He spoke right to my heart, and I admire him and the way he approaches a wedding. His images are beyond this world, and when you hear how he creates them...wow...he has patience. He shoots between 5000-8000 images during a wedding.
I also enjoyed the following photographers when they shared their story (click on their names, and check out their incredible work...so inspirational):
Daniel West (it was great meeting you Daniel), Marsel Roothman(your work is dreamy and beautiful), Deejay Busang (it was great seeing you again), Hema and Mitesh from Designer photo (wow, you have become friends and your colourful work is incredible), Chris van Dalen (good seeing you and Anje again...you should go and see their wedding photography page...Madison & West...amazing), Hanri Human (you are so clever and inspirational how you create content and its SUPER BEAUTIFUL...do yourself a favour...check out her work...amazing), and the conference ended with a bang. Warren James (wow, you work is amazing art) and Trompie van der Berg (your flash work is amazing) hosted a posing and off-camera flash practical and we used the amazing Profoto B1X flash and also the amazing Sunbounce Sun-Bouncer to create super images. The Sunbounce reflector are much bigger than my reflector. I use a circular Profoto Sunsilver reflector which I love and I have always wanted to test one of these Sunbounce reflectors.
Thank you for the models during the shoot.
Missy, from Missy Make up Artist (she did all the models' makeup), is an inspiration and she does the most amazing make-up. She has wonderful insight and gave amazing tips for any wedding day, which I have already started to communicate to my clients.
Our MC was Niki from Niki M Photography. Her wedding work is also amazing and inspirational, and she get to shoot in so many pretty places. Her passion and energy as a person is oh so tangible...wow I can just imagine how much her clients love her!
Enough said. Here is some of the images I took throughout the 3 days. Enjoy, and please leave a comment at the end.
Serenade to a love song! | Styled Shoot | Toadbury Hall
Wow, I just loved working with crazy cool suppliers in the wedding industry. It was my first time working with Josh Ansley and his wife Kerryn Ansley...they were super fun and so beautiful inside and out! Venue: Toadbury Hall
Serenade to a love song! | Styled Shoot | Toadbury Hall
‘’Love is a song that never ends. Life may be swift and fleeting, hope may die, yet love's beautiful music comes each day like the dawn. Love is a song that never ends. One simple theme repeating. Like the voice of a heavenly choir Love's sweet music flows on’’ (Disney’s Bambi)
I attended a photography conference recently and the speaker said "if you do not put yourself in the shoots you are doing then you will lose interest". What she meant was that if you do not photograph things you like or like doing, you will eventually grow tired of doing this.
I love music. I am not a musician, but I used to play piano and trumpet when I was a kid. The trumpet thing didn't last long, and I think my parents were happy...hehehe. I recently bought myself a guitar to learn to play, and I have music playing in our house almost 24/7. One of my passions is to photograph live music events, so long story short...I love music.
So my idea was....Musicians need to get married too...and I had this idea of doing a super stylish shoot where the groom serenades his soon to be wife! I took this idea to Natasha from Weddings by Tasha and we collaborated to create this amazing shoot with vendors in the Wedding Industry. Natasha are personal friends with Josh and Kerryn Ansley (Josh Ansley was the runner-up winner of The Voice SA 2nd Season, and boy oh boy this guy is talented!), so she suggested we use them for the shoot...and I was over the moon!
I also asked two of my friends Tebogo and Jaqueline to model for us, to get a different perspective of the day.
We also wanted a forest look, so Toadbury Hall Wedding Venue was the perfect fit with their forest chapel area and river.
I truly loved doing this shoot, and I just love how everything came together perfectly. Natasha you are a machine in organising everybody!

I love bold and vibrant colours at weddings! I approached Simone from the The Wedding Event to collaborate on a styled shoot with me. Just beautiful!
Bold and beautiful | Styled shoot | Hertford Country Hotel
In dreams and in love there are no impossibilities. János Arany
I love bold and vibrant colours at weddings! I approached Simone from The Wedding Event to collaborate on a styled shoot with me. I wanted to use bold and vibrant colours, but also to use the Pantone Colour of the Year (2016, Rose Quarts and Serenity). Simone did most of the styling, and Tamyrin from Bespoke Blooms did the flowers arrangements and table settings! The amazing stationery was made by Rude Design and Trendy Paperworks. We used the beautiful Hertford Country Hotel as backdrop and Liezl was our model for the day. Liezl used to work for the Hotel at the time of the shoot, and she managed the wedding and event side of the Hotel. The wedding dress was Liezl's own dress, and the blush dress was from Lunar Clothing. Shandin Watson from Erin Smylie Hair and Makeup did her makeup and hair. The exquisite cake was made by Sweet Joy and Denver from Reload Media did the interviews and behind-the-scenes video.
Thank you all for participating in this shoot and I just loved how everything worked out in the end!

My wife Juanita have been wanting to do this shoot for almost five years now. Her twin sister Zinette's daughter (Janke) is 5 years old and my wife have been wanting to arrange a photoshoot where Janke would pose in her mom's wedding dress, and fantasy became reality when my daughter was born...my wife knew her dream would come true, so she started to plan this photoshoot: Janke will wear her mom's wedding dress, and Ilé will sleep or lie on her mom Juanita's wedding dress.
Wow, I love the result....it is "OUT OF THIS WORLD!"
My wife made the flower crowns herself. She bought the flowers and the wire and tape necessary to make the crowns and watched a youtube video for instructions. Amazing.

Zinette's wedding photos was done by the talented Christiaan David Photography and Janke is holding the album he made for them for their wedding! So special!

a Father's love for his daughters | Father's Day | Hertford Country Hotel
A beautiful family shoot with Chandni and Kavita and their father Dave at Hertford Country Hotel. A father's love for his daughters is endless!
a Father's love for his daughters | Father's Day | Hertford Country Hotel
To a father growing old, nothing is dearer than a daughter. - Euripides
I have been wanting to do a shoot for a while where I can try to capture a glimpse into the love a father has for his children. My daughter Ilé has been born since the #sneakpeak of this photoshoot, and she has just been a blessing and joy to our family. So my love as a father has doubled by having two children.
I hosted a competition on my Facebook page and Chandni was the winner of the Father's Day shoot. Her sister, Kavita, also entered and they nominated their dad, Devdas (or Dave), for the BEST DAD IN THE WORLD...and this what they have to say about their dad: dad:
Chandni: To me he is the greatest man that has ever set foot on this earth. He has taught us many life lessons, inspired each of his children to be better than they ever thought possible and supported us completely in every journey we have taken. He is the one person who will always be there. No judgements, no questions asked. This was done to not only his children but with friends and family as well. This has taught me what true love really is. Love u to the ends of the earth dad!!!
Kavita: You are the best dad ever! You've always worked hard to put us first in life and you've never said no to us for anything in life. You always give us your unconditional support in everything that we do and you're always there to motivate us to be our best. As a girl growing up, you were my super man and always will be. Love you lots Dad!
Wow, inspirational stuff! I can truly see that their dad is a great guy, and during the shoot I could see he has this grace about him. He is sure of himself, and he is absolutely in love with his two daughters.
Dave is a cattle farmer in Middelburg, so I wanted to do the shoot on a farm (which is fairly difficult to find in Johannesburg) but I knew The Hertford Country Hotel has a little horse stable with two horses so this worked well for the farm element in the shoot. I just love doing shoots at the Hertford because there is so many different aspects to work with, and every shoot I do there looks different. Chandni and her sister had dungarees which they wanted to wear, and it worked perfectly in the shoot, and when they added the "cowboy" hats it finished off the look I was aiming for.
A smile starts on the lips, a grin spreads to the eyes, a chuckle comes from the belly; but a good laugh bursts forth from the soul, overflows, and bubbles all around. - Carolyn Birmingham
I think I am a funny person but my wife Juanita doesn't necessarily share the sentiment. Chandni on the other hand cracked herself for my jokes. I always try and make my clients laugh naturally in front of my camera. I believe it produces natural smiles and authentic moments, rather than asking my clients to "fake" laugh and the moment isn't authentic and it looks unnatural. I also believe that they have a light spirit, meaning they find joy in life and laugh frequently with each other. Their hearts are full of joy, so I think it wasn't difficult to make them laugh as much as they did in front of the camera. :)
Enough said. Enjoy the photos and please leave a comment at the end.

Portraits of Annemarie | The Gables Sandton | Styled Session
I had a blast doing this styled session with Annemarie Lindeque at the beautiful the Gables Sandton Venue. Amazing make-up by Making Faces by Gerda. Flowers by Bespoke Bloom.
Portraits of Annemarie | The Gables Sandton | Styled Session
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. Unknown
Wow, I had the privilege of doing some portraits of Annemarie Lindeque at the breathtakingly beautiful The Gables Sandton Venue in Sandhurst. Annemarie works at Provision Optometrists in Parys, Free State, and she came through for the day for the shoot! Jessica from The Gables Sandton asked me to photograph the room they are promoting as a Luxury Suite and as a trade-exchange she allowed me to do this styled session with Annemarie. Head on over to the Gables Sandton's website to book a night's stay at this amazing venue! Click here!
Thank you Gerda from Making Faces by Gerda for the exquisite make-up, and for organising Annemarie for me to photograph. I have met Gerda recently at the De Hoek Country Venue's Bridal Fair and we immediately realised we want to work together to create some magic! She has been in the Wedding Industry for quite some time, and have worked on many faces, including celebrities.
The beautiful flower bouquet was made by Tamyrin from Bespoke Blooms, and she also provided the copper colored vase. She is always so keen to help out, and being super busy herself she made time to make the beautiful flower bouquet the morning of the shoot. Head on over to her website, her work is absolutely stunning!

So I am privileged to share a sneak peak of the shoot I did on Sunday with Chandni, her sister Kavita and her dad Dave! Dave is a cattle farmer in Middelburg so I therefore wanted to add a farming element in the shoot, and Hertford Country Hotel and their horse stable was the perfect setting for this shoot. It's not a cattle farm, but at least the surroundings was as if they were on a farm. Chandni and her sister had dungarees which they wanted to wear, and it worked perfectly in the shoot, and when they added the "cowboy" hats it finished off the look I was aiming for.

Mother's Day mini-styled shoot | Hertford Country Hotel
Wow, I wanted to showcase the love of a mother and a daughter in a mini-styled shoot to commemorate Mother's Day, and Lindie and Charlene's love for each other was so tangible! I had so much fun with them, and they are such beautiful souls!
Mother's Day mini-styled shoot | Hertford Country Hotel
"Mothers and their children are in a category all their own. There's no bond so strong in the entire world. No love so instantaneous and forgiving." Gail Tsukiyama, Dreaming Water
I don't know what its like to be a mother. I'm a father. But what I know is I love my mother very much, and that they are the pillars of society! Even Jesus had a mother. So I believe God knew what He was doing when He created mothers. They are a shoulder to cry on, they are the glue of the family, they are the Chief Operating Officer of our homes and they are so important in all of our lives. Just look at African families, the are run by the Grandma's. Amazing.
This shoot was inspired by the love mothers have for their daughters, seeing that my daughter is coming very soon! I can't wait!
My wife, Juanita, who is also a mother, has a super eye for style, and most of the Rose Gold items are from our home! She has shown me how to turn ordinary things into works of art with Rose Gold spray paint. The cycad leaf and Consol glass jar was painted using spray paint.
I hosted a competition on Facebook for Mother's Day, and Lindie were the winner. This what she said about her mother Charlene:
"She is the most INCREDIBLE woman I have ever known! and we are so alike in the things we do. We love each other very much and I can only hope to follow in her footsteps and become as amazing as she is!"
I had so much fun with both of them during the shoot. They are such beautiful souls and they enjoy each other's company so much! I love how they laugh at each others jokes and how they finish each other's sentences...it was almost like I photographed twins! You guys were amazing!

Gold, teal & pink magic | Mini Styled Shoot | Hertford Country Hotel
Wow, I enjoyed capturing Laykanne, in a beautiful Gelique dress, for my mini-styled session at the incredible Hertford Country Hotel!
“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” ― Coco Chanel
Wow, I enjoyed working with Laykanne during the mini-styled session I did at the beautiful Hertford Country Hotel. She wore a smashingly beautiful Gelique dress, which she borrowed from her a mutual friend (and her boss's wife) Simone from the Wedding Event!
My inspiration comes from my own home. My wife, Juanita, has a special eye for decor and design, and most of the Rose Gold items in the shoot I used are from our bedroom. Locust tree leaf, the Consol Glass jars, and Wooden Protea cutt-outs were painted Rose Gold using spray-paint. The old ladder is from my garage, and the greenery is from my garden.
I am in love with Proteas which is in season at the moment. I loved how the pink, teal and Rose Gold compliment each other!
Simone made the beautiful Protea bouquet with the two proteas, and I got the red-pink proteas from Impala Flora at the Fourways Gardens' Spar.

I really got excited when Nicky asked me to be a part of this styled shoot, and it was going to be held at one of my wife and I's favorite venues, Buitengeluk. We stay literally a few minutes away and we visit probably weekly for coffee or lunch.
I am not going to write a huge story about this, because amazingly it got featured on the PRETTY BLOG.

Patio Inspiration - Karen Kelly from Lovilee - Styled Shoot
A mini styled shoot done at Karen Kelly from Lovilee's house!
A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms. — Unknown
What I recently realized was the fact that Karen Kelly (Lovilee) and I attend the same church. So I met up with her, had a great coffee at The Whippet in Linden (Oh I love this place) and we just talked on how we can start a journey together as creatives. So what happened is that she asked me to do a mini styled shoot of her patio in exchange for a listing space on her blog, and the rest was history! Amazing. I just love it when we as creatives can work together and assist each other.
Please see the before-photos at the following link:

And the pictures just came out "Lovilee"! (pardon the pun, and I am sure Karen is used to all the sarcasm by now)
And it is featured on Lovilee...yeah! feeling super stoked and proud! Here is the post!
