Chrisjan and Juanita is expecting and they looked smashing during their photos with me!
I had the privilege of capturing Chrisjan and Juanita’s wedding a few years ago, and now for their next milestone in life…their firstborn daughter is on the way! I call myself a lifestyle photography because I truly love documenting people’s milestones with beautiful photos. It’s almost like I am a part of their families, because I see how people get older and wiser, and also how families grow! Man, I love it.
Juanita is looking absolutely radiant and I know she said she is tired, but I truly doesn’t show. We went to the Bryanston Pine Forest for the photos, it is still one of my favourite place to shoot at.
I remember how Chrisjan used to look at his wife during the wedding, and especially during the photos. I mean this man is totally in love with his wife. NOTHING has changed…he is still completely in love with his wife! Just look at him…he can’t keep his eyes off of her!
Both of you are an inspiration, and I pray that Zion will be a fortress for people in need and that people will feel safe around her because of the presence of God.

Ryno and Simoné beautiful urban coupe shoot in Parkhurst was so much fun!
I hosted a little competition on my Facebook page and Simone was one of the 2 winners!
Originally I wanted to create a super romantic Valentines Day shoot on a rooftop, but due to circumstances I postponed and postponed, up until I said to Simone let’s just do a normal Urban couple shoot. I am so glad we ended up doing an urban shoot because Ryno and Simone are such naturals. They were keen for me to experiment a lot, which I loved, because during couple shoots I have less stress to provide “perfect wedding or engagement” photos but rather very creative and personal photos for them as a couple. I am not saying that I dont create super cool photos for my clients during engagement shoots or weddings but rather that the stress to create them is less. (So I can play a bit more and experiment a bit more…which I love). I also use these platforms to practice shots I would not dare to try during a wedding shoot due to the time limit and error factor…during a wedding I can’t make mistakes!
We went to Parkhurst for photos in the streets, and Ryno and Simone are such a cool couple. They are not engaged…well not yet…wink wink. It’s actually quite funny how many people responded on the photos “I see wedding bells in the distance…!”
They looked absolutely beautiful and so much in love!

A day in the life of the Van der Waterens
I spent the afternoon today with Joe and Nadine at their beautiful home, and I loved capturing moments for them!
Nadine is a very good friend of ours, and she is also a mentor at our church’s youth ministry (my wife and I are also mentors), and she has a profound prophetic gift. She is so inspiring in the way she shares about her walk with Jesus.
Nadine told me that Joe, her husband, is not the “photo shoot” type of guy and she had been begging nagging him for 5 years for them to do a shoot, and the day finally arrived. And crazy enough, Joe was actually sick during the shoot, and he did quite well to not “look sick”. In fact, I think he did amazingly well. Joe and Nadine are such a special couple and they are completely sold out to Jesus. They have been together for 14 years, and they know each for 20 years. (Wow, they look quite good for a couple who’s kids are in university….)
Joe loves hunting, therefor the buck trophies in the house and Nadine works in the medicine industry and she is an amateur musician. Nadine said that Joe grew in a house where his parents were musicians so he felt he wanted to do the opposite…so he can’t play the guitar or piano. He did say he is a rocker at heart, and loves his rock music!
Their kids are out of the house, and they currently live with their dog and cat…and what a mission to get the dog in the photos….we sort of managed by throwing a very slobbers toy and I really love the result!
The photos in the lilies are super special because its Nadine’s little pride of her home, and loves them becuase of their significance. They symbolize trumpets because they look like trumpets, and trumpets make noice or music which announce something, or prophetically shout out to the Lord! Similar to the Israelites walking around Jericho and blowing on their trumpets…

Wow, I got very lucky with this shoot. Prebz was the winner of my photo competition, which I hosted recently, but I didn’t know I was going to have so much fun and that they are going to look this good…! Amazing!
I mostly host these competitions to attract new clients, and also just to have fun because I get to direct the shoot a little more compared to something I do for a client.
What I didn’t plan was the fact that Prebz got engaged shortly before I selected a winner, so this shoot doubled up as an engagement shoot…which was super awesome. It was a little funny when Prebz told me Shogan has proposed without a ring…so they brought a blow-up ring…which ended up being in the “ring shot”.
I really had fun doing this shoot. Prebz and Shogan are such easy people to photograph…and just look how gorgeous they are! And I must say, I have worked with lots of makeup people, but Arti (Instagram: @artyn88) are definitely one of the best I have worked with. His makeup is like pieces of art…I mean just look at Prebz’ incredible makeup.
Prebz wanted to do an urban shoot, so she booked an Airbnb apartment in the innercity of Johannesburg, in the Maboneng District, and what a find! This penthouse has the most amazing views of the city and the sun also didn’t disappoint…what a sunset over the city!
Prebz bought her beautiful dress at Forever New.

The Nirox Park is for the ART fans, but also for the garden enthusiasts….I mean it looks like a botanical gardens with huge sculptures and artwork placed everywhere…which makes for very creative photos…which I love! I am not a ART person in bone and marrow, but I am very creative so I just loved doing this shoot for them!

I met Hennie and Béhanke at the Admired in Africa #beInspired 2018 conference and they were one of the model couples for the last day's workshop. I just knew I had to do a photoshoot with them, and I really wanted to do the shoot at beautiful Shepstone Gardens...and amazingly it's the venue they really want to say their I-do's one day! Some call it coincidence or destiny...I call it an act of God. I just love it when I meet likeminded people who love Jesus as much as I do, and especially when their love is rooted in Him.
May your love always be rooted in Him!

Every now and then I have a crazy idea to create cool photos...well this was one of them.
I went past the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens one winter morning and saw the mist and said to myself I want to do a couple shoot there early one morning to catch the mist. I knew it will be cold, and it had to be, otherwise there will not be mist....well...I didn't know its going to be this cold. It was absolutely freezing....and I love how the mist and frost accentuates the fact that it's freezing cold!
Another thing I misjudged was that I thought the sun would rise at around 6am, but in fact it rose at 7am...so we ended up creating a few images before sunrise.
Tebogo and Lihle, thank you for embracing the cold with me! Your chemistry and love is sweet and may it be rooted in the One Above!

Sometimes I wonder how some people find me. I mean I don't have a button on my webpage or Facebook which says:"Only beautiful people CLICK HERE!"...but I have gorgeous people as clients! Wow, Bryan and Sarah...you guys are so freakin good lookin'....my camera almost melted...and coupled with that magical sun up on the Northcliff Koppie...oh my word...magical stuff!
And they are super cool as well. They are tattoo artists (they work for Fallen Heroes) in the day and cheerleaders at night...wow, that sound like they are super heroes...wait...I am not sure exactly how they do it but they are also cheerleaders and they compete regularly overseas. Perhaps they will do a crazy stunt at the wedding...will have to wait and see!
Their crazy beautiful engagement photos were taken at two locations. We started in Parkhurst tourist area and walked the streets. And something out of the ordinary happened. The photos with the champagne wasn't planned at all...we were doing photos in front of Rockets Parkhurst and friends of theirs, who were at the restaurant, gave them each a glass to enjoy...so we had to capture a few shots with the champagne.
Wow, I also just want to give a shout out to a super awesome company, Profoto. I just love their Sunsilver Reflector....wow...those shots at the Cape Dutch building with the light on Sarah's face...that was created while holding the reflector in my left hand!
Their shoot ended at a new location close to Northcliff Koppie in Gauteng. The actual Northcliff Koppie site is closed off for renovations and its inaccessible to the public. The sunset was out of this world, and just loved getting a few shots with Bryan’s Ford Mustang as well!

Klaas-Jan & Mareli's wedding day was super special, and I not only made a special connection with them as a couple, but also with their families. I just love it...and I was sad to say goodbye at the end of the day. That is what weddings is for me and what it means to me...I pour out my heart and soul to capture special photos for my clients, and I love it when hard work pays off! Just look at the photos...amazing fun, laughter and smiles! They are all such a happy bunch of people!
Something super funny happened. Mareli's sister Ilana did her make-up and hair (her company in Namibia is Ilana's Hair Gallery) and her two sons (one is 5 and the other is 3 years old) were the ring-bearers but they missed their afternoon nap, so when it was time to hand-over the rings...well the eldest was more than half asleep which made for such a funny moment!
The wedding was on the Friday and it rained during that week...oh wait it poured with rain. So the morning of the wedding day it rained once more and I prepared like crazy for me to stay dry during the couple shoot, and I kept thinking the whole day "we would embrace the rain and take epic rain shots"...well...that was what I expected. I mean it had been raining for 2 days flat so what else did I expect? Exactly the opposite...we had sunshine! It was muddy but there were dramatic skies and sunshine...amazing. Mareli's prayers were truly answered. The biggest testimony for the day was the exact moment when Mareli walked into church, that was the first time the first sunshine appeared...so we had to take a photo!
We did the sunset shoot at a random spot on our way to the venue, and we were lucky to get Kosmos flowers in the field. I always try my best to document the day as it happens rather than directing the day, but it's always difficult during the couple shoot because none of the happenings during the couple shoot happens "naturally"...I mean its not normal to go stand in a random field on your way to the venue. But I love the little moments in between the posed moments which I didn't direct like when Mareli and Klaas-Jan did the Tango with a Kosmos flower, or when Klaas-Jan picked Mareli up to take her back to the car....real moments are such a joy to capture!
The reception was super fun. They had the coolest games to entertain the guests which made everybody laugh like crazy and it was fun to capture! The venue is situated in a sort of a valley with 2 dams right in front, which means if it gets cold at night, then there surely will be mist. And there were lots of it! So I just knew the night shot was going to be epic and it was!

I just love it when clients trust me to do something a little different. Chantelle is working in the creative industry as a freelance designer and art director, and she wanted a fairytale type shoot. She told me that has this vintage dress she wanted to wear which in fact was used as a wedding dress by several weddings in her family. This dress later on became a costume for dress up parties, and I believe she looked amazing in this dress. Chantelle really looked like a fairy princess in that dress, and Kyle looked great as well. We started the shoot with Chantelle in a midi dress, and ended with the vintage wedding dress.
She also said she loves dramatic and colorful makeup, and Shelley from Butterfly Blush did such an amazing job doing her make-up.
It was the first time I arranged for the make-up to be done at my home, and it worked out quite well. Bryanston Pine Forest don't have a place or venue to get dressed or do make-up, so it just made sense to do it at my home.
I have bought a plastic tube (or fluorescent tube protector) and a flashlight and I want to start doing #Tubestories. Go check out this link: EricPare...this guy is insanely good. I showed the tube to Kyle and he said, why don't you try this on us? I was like...good idea! It didn't work out completely as I would have hoped, because you need complete darkness to achieve a great shot, but we got to play around a bit. That is what is great when you have people who trusts you...you can test new ideas on them as models, and they really enjoyed it.
We had some of the coldest weather this year in November...super weird. I mean we had 50cm of snow in some parts of South Africa, and firstly it doesn't really snow here and secondly we had some serious snow. So the morning of the shoot I almost cancelled due to the weather being so cold, but I am so glad we didn't. The afternoon was a little warmer, and I actually loved the eerie weather in the end...helped with the theme for the shoot!

I loved the engagement shoot I did with Christiaan & Mireille! These two are serious love birds, and I loved the chemistry between them...make for crazy beautiful and authentic photos!

I love it when clients make me feel comfortable as well. I mean, I always go out of my way to make my clients feel comfortable, but sometimes I get a little anxious because I need to concentrate on creating a relaxed atmosphere...but when my clients are super relaxed I am super relaxed. Christiaan and Mireille are such clients...so basically they allowed and trusted me to be super creative...I mean the photo above is a in-camera double exposure. It was done with photoshop, and I love the result!
Christiaan and Mireille are getting married at Morrels Boutique Venue in Linden, Johannesburg, and I am unfortunately not the wedding photographer. They already have a photographer, but they really wanted to their engagement shoot with me. They are both easy going people, and love the outdoors and nature a lot, so we did their shoot at the beautiful Delta Park in Randburg!
A crazy funny thing happened during the shoot. I made them stand underneath a Jacaranda tree and while I was directing them how to stand, a random dog entered the frame of the shot and made a poo...I mean you only see these things on Facebook...hilarious! Mireille told me when we finished, I MUST share that photo on Facebook...and I did. See here....we cracked up with laughter!

We have had seriously cold weather these past few days, and Saturday was most probably the climax, and I almost cancelled due to the weather, but I am so glad we didn't cancel. The afternoon was a little warmer though, and I actually loved the eerie weather in the end...helped with the theme for the shoot!

Dawn & Ryan entered the competition I hosted at the Oakfield Bridal Expo this year and won, so they qualified for a 50% discount...but I was super lucky to get such good looking people as clients!
They are such great people to be around with and the chemistry they have with the camera and with each other was special.
The were fun, yet stylish at the same time, and I enjoyed capturing them against the Urban setting of the Maboneng Precinct, which is very much a contrast to their wedding venue, The Orchard Wedding Venue, KZN! It's a long stretch till their wedding, but I can't wait for their wedding in September next year!
We ended the shoot at the Origin Coffee in Maboneng, and I must say there isn't coffee that tastes better than theirs! Amazing!
